TWO MEN TALKING
NICODEMUS Jesus you have preached on the Kingdom of God, but I am not clear on it, would you explain it.
NICODEMUS (CONT'D) How do we get in?
JESUS I tell you the truth, no one can see the Kingdom of God unless he is born again.
JESUS (CONT’D) The Kingdom of God is like a man (me) who sowed good seed (Sons of God)in his field (the world). But while everyone was sleeping his enemy (the devil) sowed weeds (sons of the evil one) among the wheat and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads (fruit of their faith), then the weeds also appeared.
JESUS (CONT’D) The owner’s servants came to him and said; ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?
JESUS (CONT’D) ‘And enemy did this,’ He said. The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ ‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds you may root up the wheat with them. Let booth grow together until the harvest (end of the age). At that time, I will tell the harvesters (angels): First collect the weeds (everything that causes sin and all who do evil) and tie them in bundles to be burned into the fiery furnace (where there will be weeping and ganshing of teeth); then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn. (Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father). He who has ears, let him hear.
JESUS (CONT’D) This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain-first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.
NICODEMUS The kingdom is so small, will it grow and produce results?
JESUS The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seed, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree; to that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.
NICODEMUS Will it impact the world?
JESUS The Kingdom of God is like yeast that a women took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough.
NICODEMUS Will we receive any rewards in the Kingdom.
JESUS For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.
JESUS (CONT’D) About the third hour he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So they went.
JESUS (CONT’D) He went out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour and did the same thing. About the eleventh hour he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘ Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’ He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’
JESUS (CONT’D) When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.
JESUS (CONT’D) The workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius. So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. ‘These men who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’
JESUS (CONT’D) But he answered one of them, ‘Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last thee same as I gave you. Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ So the last will be first, and the first will be last.
